The Georgia Tech Campus Emergency Response Team (GT-CERT) is a volunteer organization made up of students, faculty, and staff at Georgia Tech and the surrounding community that works to better prepare the campus for emergencies. Members train to perform emergency tasks including first aid, light search and rescue, and the use of a fire extinguisher. The Georgia Tech Police Department Office of Emergency Preparedness (OEP) trains the GT-CERT team and may call on members to assist in severe weather events, large-scale visitor events, and for distribution of emergency preparedness information and materials. The GT OEP organizes drills and training opportunities for CERT members throughout the year.

Our CERT team operates under the guidelines of the national CERT organization, a part of the United States Citizen Corps. CERT teams exist throughout the nation in cities and on many other college campuses. The goal of CERT throughout the country is to do the most good for the greatest number of people.
